I just read “Outbound” in the new Analog and enjoyed it immensely. I hadn’t heard of you before, so found you online, hoping to find a bibliography to read more. But looks like you’re brand new on the scene so now, apparently, I must wait! I look forward to following your work. Thanks for “Outbound.”

    • Hi Scott! Unfortunately, yes, I am a “newb” at this whole professional publication game, though I can report truthfully that I’ve been trying to write fiction and sell it for quite some time now. I have another novelette, of somewhat similar theme, coming out in the Writers of the Future anthology vol. 26, and I am also going to be doing a military-themed web serial here on the blog, starting in September, so please check me out again when you get a moment. Thanks so much for the kind praise. Much appreciated. I am glad my story was something you enjoyed. That’s all any writer ever wants to hear, I think. That someone out there found enjoyment in what the writer produced. Best wishes!

Hi Brad! I have a copy of WOTF vol. XXVI stacked away in my bag, and since I’ve only recently received the book (those over seas mail orders do take some time), I haven’t had a chance to check out “Exanastasis” yet, but how can anyone co-author a story with Mike Resnick and still call themselves a “newb” is beyond me. :)

Just so that you don’t think me a random stalker, I’ve stumbled on your page site looking for WOTF winners online to check out where they went after their wins… So no, I’m a very not-random stalker indeed. Unfortunately I’m not the hot-girl type of very not-random stalker animal family either, but best of luck with everything else!

Didn’t realize it was out already! Guess I’ll have to make a trip to Borders very soon.

    • Scott Phillips says:

Alex… Not sure if the November Analog is out in print yet. I subscribe to it on Kindle, which may appear before it hits the magazine racks.

  3. Al Meyer says:

    Brad,

I found “Outbound” to be quite excellent in all respects. I shall certainly be on the outlook for new works from you.

… and how is that novel coming? :O)

    • Wow, Al, that is very kind of you to say. I wish I had more “new” to offer, but I’m just getting my foot in the door, as it were. Hopefully more soon? I will off course be shouting it from the roof tops at this blog, when it happens. But I am so pleased you found “Outbound” enjoyable! It certainly was fun to write, and it’s a privelege to be in the covers of Analog.

    • P.S: novel is (soon to be) off to Baen. Fingers crossed. Meanwhile, my web “serial” novel starts later this month. Stay tuned!

  4. Brad,
Just curious, are you now an “official” with Writers of the Future website? I see you’ve posted the last three quarterly results pages.
Congratulations on your success as a newbie writer by the way. I’m a newbie also, and I agree with you, it’s nice to know that readers enjoy my work. Looking forward to reading more of your stuff.

    • Not an official. I’ve been contracted by Author Services to administer their web forum. I try to post the results as I am able, but don’t get them any sooner than anyone else unfortunately.

In reading ‘Ray of Light’ for the Hugo judging, is there a typo where ‘waste’ is supposed to be ‘waist’…? Thought you may want to know.

  6. Gorka L says:

    Hi Brad,

I have just read “Outbound”, “Ray of light” and “Exanastasis” due to the HUGO 2012 awards. I have found “Outbound” excellent. Also “Ray of light” is very good, but in a different way. I find “Ray of light” a beautiful story whereas “Outbound ” is a great story. It reminded me of a film of 70s whose name is “Silent running”. “Exanastasis” is a “different” story, psychological. I will try and find more from your stories. I would really like to read your first book.

    • Wow, thanks so much, Gorka! I am pleased you liked these stories so much. It’s a very solid list on the Hugo ballot this year, so I am gratified that my stories stood out for you; enough so that you’d track my blog down and let me know. Much obliged! I am working on selling a book at this very moment. Will announce a sale and/or publication on the blog, assuming all goes well.
