I got word today from Dr. Schmidt at Analog: he’s buying my novelette “Ray of Light.” Story will most likely appear very late this year, or perhaps early next. Depending on how things shake out in the queue. After the dozens and dozens of rejections I’d gotten from Analog from 1995 to 2009, to be able to (finally) hit this editor and this market successfully is supremely gratifying. A lot of people don’t know this, but Analog is the oldest, and still the most widely-circulated science fiction magazine in the U.S. A lot of professional authors got their start in this publication, and a lot of professionals continue to appear in its pages. My 4th sale to Stan continues a trend begun about 18 months ago, when I broke into Analog with, “Outbound.” As always, huge thanks to Dr. Stan, for trusting me with his page space. Also huge thanks to John Helfers and Denise Little, as well as Kris Rusch and Dean Smith, and everyone who was at the workshop in Lincoln City this past February. The story got high marks then, I hope it gets high marks from readers.
